Now let's have a FWD vs. RWD fight! Or, y'know, not. That would be fine too.

People only defend FWD to justify their own car purchase.

Pfft, 4WD is master race!

RWD only please.

AWD for the win
RWD for the fun
FWD for the ...nevermind

Jokes on you, I can't see YouTube at work!

I have both. RWD for fun, FWD for interior space.

You must have seen videos of Jean Ragnotti.

*ding ding ding* but I can't get people to buy that. They're parading around with their automatics! Something's gone horribly awry on here, I tell you. Next thing you know, we are going to be talking about gas mileage and navigation systems.

Oh, right right.

Fulvia is FWD, and better for it.
My Alfa 156 is also FWD, and I don't think it's a significant disadvantage. It feels less balanced, but still grips hard. Plus, at sub-200bhp, you really feel the difference in drivetrain loss between FWD and RWD (comparing a 156 2.5l V6 against an E36 325i).

I'd have suffered quite a bit if my diesel Rabbit (Golf) had been RWD, I'd say.

In all fairness, I've a choice between a FWD car and a RWD car as my next, and I'm still leaning toward the FWD. So, I suppose I'm justifying a purchase I've yet to make, more than anything else.

Deep down inside, you know it to be true.

Or they're excessively French. Or realizing that the only way not to be a me-too BMW idiot driving a 3er is to buy a FWD BMW.
Or just out of their minds. I qualify on that last ground, but unless you intend to give me a 130i hatch in place of my Mini, then *raspberry*.

I hate that I know the FWD BMW will be the best selling BMW ever...

The F20 1er is still RWD for the moment.
The F45 2er? Yeah, jury's still out on that.
But consider this: if the Mini is what BMW is capable of doing with Wrong Wheel Drive...

Good point! But still....tradition and such.

Hey man, you're the one who's regretting your FWD purchase; I'm happy with mine. :-P

I fall into the first category. Well, I'm not French - I'm actually British, so we're sorta mortal enemies and such - but I drive a French car and love it very much.

When did I say I regretted it?

You didn't.

And here I am, an American, driving a Made in Oxfordshire Mini Clubman S.
And ride a motorbike built in Leicestershire (Triumph Sprint ST).

(insert Singer 911 image if Kinja'd)
Rear engine, rear wheel drive. Best of both worlds. Rear wheel drive for fun, and stick it in reverse and it's pretty much the same thing as a front engine, front wheel drive car... except a bit more fun.
